Moms: Work From Home and Make Money!

Just because you have children and must tend to their busy schedules while juggling responsibilities of cooking dinner, buying groceries, cleaning & bathing them does not mean that you must sacrifice your career goals or rely solely upon your husband for your income and well being. Below are some ideas for how to make money at home, while still raising your children and being a good wife to your husband.

Freelance Writing or Photography
If you enjoy writing or photography, there are ways in which you can use your talents to earn money. Seek out a local newspaper or magazine to see if they need part-time freelance work. Look around online to see if there are opportunities for you to do a regular column in a weekly, monthly, or quarterly publication or online blog. Freelance work is great because it allows you to set your own schedule and work as much (or as little) as you like or as your schedule will allow. So look around and find an outlet to express yourself!

Part-Time or Contract Work
In today’s tech-savvy world, there are many ways that you can work from the comfort of your home on a contract or part time basis and make good money! Look online or in local newspapers for companies looking to hire part time seasonal work during the holidays. Are you a CPA or do you have a paralegal background? Look into accounting or law firms that need seasonal help maybe during tax season or other busy times of year. If you have a personal computer, you have all you need to be able to telecommute and work at night or on weekends to make ends meet.

Helping Others with their Children
You likely have other friends who are moms and could use a little help. Offer to keep your neighbors or friends children while they are at work. Better yet, offer to tutor neighborhood or co-workers’ children during the summer for some extra money. Also, try to work out a deal where you can work outside the home for a couple of days a week and trade off with another mom to keep the children the other two days. Both moms can get out of the house and know that their children are in good hands. Teamwork leads to innovative ways of making ends meet!

Get Online!
There are lots of opportunities to make money from your personal computer by either selling items online, completing surveys, or becoming a secret shopper. Do some research to find ways to make money (but be careful of scams!). If you are crafty or enjoy making jewelry or other items, make those and sell them on an online auction site. If you enjoy shopping, it may behoove you to become a secret shopper or to do online market research for a company. Doing a few online searches will result in lots of opportunities to do some online shopping or selling to make a buck!

A Penny Saved…
Finally, you know what they say about a penny saved… it is also a penny earned! Look for ways to save money in your monthly expenditures. For example, find ways to cut energy costs or use coupons to ensure that you are getting the best deals on your grocery or other household items. Shop around to find great deals on birthday or anniversary gifts. Find creative ways to repurpose things in your home and reuse them in new ways.

As you can see, there are many creative ways to save or earn money while being a good mom and staying home with your children. Technology has made it very easy to find opportunities to make money in your home or to connect with other moms to work out a deal where you both win. Finding creative ways of earning money can allow your children to enjoy their time with you, but also can allow you to have a little extra money in your pocket. Get Creative!
